Unique Barn Wood Shutters

Barn wood plantation shutters are nearly impossible to find.  When you do, they can be extremely expensive as re-purposing vintage distressed barn wood can be quit the challenge.

Driftwood shutters adorn a door and two windows in Charlottesville, Virginia.

“I got asked one day if I could make barn wood shutters.  That is where the idea came from,” said Show-Case Shutters owner, Shan Carroll.

That inquiry would set Carroll and his engineer team off on a mission to make reproduction distressed barn wood shutters.  A shutter that would have the desired look as well as the quality manufacturing needed for a product expected to last a lifetime.

“The process is a multi-stepped process that is almost entirely done by hand,” said Carroll.

It’s a process that includes grooving the wood, multiple stages of sanding plus a stain finish that is as unique as the shutter.

“Our standard offering is a smoke gray and driftwood white.  But, in all actuality, we custom stain to the client’s needs,” said Show-Case’s marketing manager, David Tate.

Homestead Collection by Show-Case ShuttersSo far, the unique finish is slowly getting noticed.  Recently, Show-Case Shutters added a dealer in Daytona Beach, Florida that is the exclusive distributor in the Sunshine State.

Tropical View Shutters owner, Mike Bono, thinks the finish – especially the drift wood, will do well in the state.

“I am really excited about this product.  Everyone I show really likes it.  It is very unique,” said Bono.

The company uses red alderwood as the standard for the special finish.  No other company makes barn wood shutters; a finish Show-Case Shutters hopes will put them on the map as the supplier of unique, quality shutter finishes.

“It’s all part of our “Homestead Collection”, which also includes a special antique distressed look as well as a knotty stained “rustic” look,” said Tate

“This collection is how we expect to stand out in this competitive market.  That and the fact that we are American-made quality really makes a statement.”

Window Treatments With Beauty & Value

Plantation Shutters are the most beautiful architectural statement regarding window treatments you can add to your home’s windows

Show-Case Shutters being handmade in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia

Show-Case Shutters, located in Christiansburg, Virginia, handcraft their Plantation Shutters with quality and attention to detail. Our Plantation Shutters are American-made with solid wood components and come in a wide variety of stains and painted finishes.  Options that allow you to be very creative with your window treatments.

Beyond that, when your window treatments include interior shutters your room will have an exclusive, stately look. You will also be better able to perfectly control the natural light. Plantation Shutters provide a range of benefits while enhancing the beauty and use of any room.

Benefits with Plantation Shutters as Window Treatments

Show-Case Shutters offers a full “no liability” service that takes the worry out of buying interior shutters.
  • Energy Savings – Minimize heat loss and gain. Control the amount of sunlight coming in by angling the blades to control the amount sunlight that enters the room.
  • UV Protection – Protect your valuable furniture and floor finish from harmful UV rays. Sunlight can fade and discolor your home décor investment. Simply by adjusting the angle of the shutter blades upward, you reflect the natural light towards the ceiling without directly impacting on your home’s décor. The plantation shutters allow you the filter or block up to 99% of the sunlight.
  • Increase Privacy and Security – Privacy with beauty. Show-Case Shutters offers a mid-rail design that allows to independently operate both halves of the shutter.  This is done to control the natural light. This greatly enhances the use of any room day or night. For total privacy you can close both lower and upper sections.
  • Easy Maintenance and Health Benefits – Plantation Shutters require minimal cleaning. Regular dusting is all that is necessary to keep them looking new. Shutters are a perfect choice for those with allergies or asthma to keep dust levels to a minimum.
  • Home Value – Increase the value of your home with plantation shutters. Interior shutters are the only window treatments that can be included in your home mortgage or appraisal because they are permanently attached.
  • Controlling Natural Light – Finally, plantation shutters allow you to regulate the amount of sunlight that enters the room.  This creates a pleasing glow of light instead of an annoying glare.

The Homestead Collection

Show-Case Shutters is pleased to announce the Homestead Collection – unique, hand-crafted plantation shutters, are now available.

Barn wood Shutters

It is a request we have heard many times:  “Can you make a barn wood shutter?”  The answer, in short is, “not very well”. Distressed barn wood is just that – distressed.  Decades old, the material at one time had better days.  The process of turning such material into a shutter is a game of splinters.

That’s when owner, Shan Carroll, decided to make a faux distressed barn wood from one of Show-Case Shutter’s premium shutters.

The process is an eight-step process that is extremely time-consuming.  Alder is the wood of choice for this finish.  A wood that, once finished, is incredible for this shutter.  Especially after the knot holes are individually sanded out.

Driftwood Shutters

Our driftwood shutter is actually the white version of the “smoke” colored barn wood shutter.  These two shutters are our standard distressed barn wood finishes.  However, we can custom stain any color the client needs.

Rustic Shutters

This shutter is finished using premium basswood.  In general, manufacturers look for smooth basswood for their stain grade – we look for knotty bass for this finish.  In the end the stained product is the perfect mix for those beautiful timber frame homes that are nestled back in the mountains.

Distressed Deco Shutters

This finish has that 1950’s era kitchen feel that is hard to get.  This hand finished product includes custom glazing and imperfection recreation.  The end product is perfect for that hard to match project.

Engraved Raised Panel Shutters

Finally, because of our custom capabilities, we also have the equipment for custom engraving!  This is perfect for that sports fan that wants their team’s logo forever etched into their man cave shutters.  How about your initials in the dividing doors hanging in your formal room?  If you can dream it, we can do it!

These five offerings make up the Homestead Collection which is now available at all levels of sale.  Contact David Tate at (540)206-7479.
